In the recent years, the Government of Lesotho funded the Lesotho Renewable Energy-Based Rural Electrification Project (LREBRE), with the aim to reduce Lesotho''s energy related CO 2 emissions by substituting the use of fossil fuel (paraffin and diesel) with the renewable energy sources (photovoltaic, wind and mini/micro-hydro) in particular
Successful pilot hybrid solar PV mini-grid in Lesotho paves way for a further 10 mini-grids that will provide first-time energy access to 30,000 people and clean power to seven health clinics. The second phase of a
As part of the U.S. Government''s COVID-19 response, Power Africa awarded over $2.6 million in grants to electrify health facilities, allocating funds to nine solar energy companies to provide urgently needed off-grid power to over 250 rural
Journey into the Sustainable Energy/Climate Sector. In 2023, my company launched an innovative and accessible solar pay-as-you-go business model, which provides access to basic electricity and financial inclusion to rural, low-income communities. Our mission is to electrify 50% of Lesotho''s rural communities and promote livelihoods.
In a bid to address these challenges, PIH Lesotho partnered with OnePower Lesotho — a renewable energy company. By the end of 2022, solar power infrastructure was installed across all seven RI sites. This

higher as compared to 59% in 2018/2019 ( Lesotho Electricity and Water Authority (LEWA), 2019). This shows that there is an increasing demand, but stagnant generation capacity hence the need for the security for the supply of electricity in Lesotho. generation including solar energy-based systems in section 7.1 which form the basis of this
Solar Energy in Lesotho is a renewable energy source that has been gaining traction in recent years. It is a clean and sustainable form of energy that has the potential to provide power to the entire country. Lesotho is located in the southern hemisphere and is blessed with an abundance of sunshine, making it an ideal location for solar energy.
This project aims to advance inclusive and productive use of energy by catalysing a women-led productive use of electricity company (PUECO) in Lesotho. The PUECO will support the creation of women-owned local enterprises and develop a last-mile supply chain for energy efficient appliances in three communities served by OnePower solar mini-grids
An application of the Weather Research and Forecasting mode aiming to estimate wind and 18 photovoltaic energy resources over Lesotho is presented. To this scope, the whole year 2015 was 19

Breeze Power, a company owned jointly by GOKL and Harrison & White Investments, is investigating twelve sites for wind power generation. Energy demand is growing in South Africa and the rest of the region, and Lesotho has the potential to export renewable power.
Currently, Lesotho generates 72 megawatts of hydropower through the ‘Muela Hydropower plant, which does not satisfy domestic demand. The country will generate 80 MW following the construction of the Polihali Dam expected to be completed in 2028. There is potential, and there are plans, to expand hydropower capacity and establish wind farms.
Lesotho is one of the least electrified countries in the world, with a rural electrification rate estimated at below 20% – and solar mini-grids offer an opportunity to serve difficult-to-access locations.
