Spain is one of the first countries to deploy large-scale solar photovoltaics, and is the world leader in concentrated solar power (CSP) production. In 2022, the cumulative total solar power installed was 19.5 GW, of which 17.2 GW were solar PV installations and 2.3 GW were concentrated solar power. In 2016, nearly 8 TWh of.

In 2023, installed solar photovoltaic power increased by 28%, bringing an additional 5,594 MW to the Spanish generation pool, the highest figure since records began. As a result, this technology now has 25,549 MW
This work provides a comprehensive review of the energy policy evolution for the whole solar power sector in Spain, namely both solar PV and CSP technologies, from 1998 to 2020. Thus, this review deals with the
Spain is one of Europe''s largest solar photovoltaic (PV) energy producers. In 2021, solar accounted for 16% of Spain''s installed capacity and 8% of the country''s power generation as a whole. And solar energy in Spain is
To meet these targets, the new energy strategy outlines a plan to have 214 GW of total installed capacity in the electricity sector by 2030. This includes 160 GW from renewable generation and 22

Thus, this surpasses the 37,472 GWh produced in the whole of 2023 The amount of solar photovoltaic energy generated in Spain up to 5 October 2024 was more than all the energy registered in 2023, according to data provided by Red Eléctrica.
In 2008 the Spanish government committed to achieving a target of 12% of primary energy from renewable energy by 2010 and by 2020 expected the installed solar generating capacity of 10 GW. Since 2010, Spain has been the world's leader in concentrated solar power (CSP).
This academic contribution provides a comprehensive review of the energy policy evolution for the whole solar power sector in Spain, specifically both solar photovoltaic (PV) and concentrating solar power (CSP) plants, over the last 23 years.
The Spanish solar power sector has suffered continuous and significant changes in its regulation, denoting a great dynamism in recent years. In this vein, a survey of the different legislation in force during the 1998–2020 period was first conducted to contextualize and describe the last 23 years of solar energy policy in Spain.
At the end of 2020 there were a total of 61,543 PV facilities in Spain, reaching a 6.1% share of solar PV energy in the energy demand. On the other hand, as regards the evolution of the Spanish CSP sector in the period 1998–2020, the following first lessons can be learned from Figure 2:
