Work has begun on Anegada''s Hybrid Renewable Energy & Battery Storage System in the British Virgin Islands (BVI), which, upon completion in November of this year, would harness solar energy to power the island of Anegada.
"The long-term goal is for us to get to around 70 to 80 percent renewable energy across the Virgin Islands. This project will reduce diesel-produced electricity on Anegada by 90 to 95 percent," Honourable Rymer said.
In addition to being committed to seeing a reduction of inputs to fossil-fuel-based energy generation, we are also focused on securing a more efficient and reliable electricity supply source for Anegada.
The Government of the Virgin Islands has signed an agreement for the Anegada Microgrid project, which will introduce renewable solar energy to the island. The agreement was signed through the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC).
