Thursday 25th January 2024 Zenobē reaches financial close and begins construction of its Kilmarnock South battery project, a transformative 300MW/600MWh asset to reduce wasted wind energy and power Scotland’s renewable energy future.
When wind generation is low but demand is high, battery operators release the stored electricity back into the system, ensuring this energy is not wasted. They also provide a wide range of additional services needed to maintain grid stability and keep the lights on. Why Kilmarnock South?
This project forms part of Zenobe’s broader £750 million investment to expand Scotland’s battery storage capabilities by 2025. Kilmarnock South, anticipated to be operational by late 2025, is expected to play a crucial role in optimising Scotland’s wind energy resources.
Zenobe isn’t the only company looking to scale up battery storage operations in Scotland, however. Yesterday, it was revealed that RES had also submitted a planning application for a new 45 MW energy storage project near Alness in the Scottish Highlands.
